Introducing our week 294 (Yr. 6 Wk. 34) contributor: @cjwidmaier ⠀ Hi, I’m Chris Widmaier. Rochester is my home and I love it here. I have been exploring it most of my life and I’m looking forward to showing you what I’ve found. ⠀ Lately I’ve been calling myself three things. The first is “educator at large”. After thirteen years as a science teacher in the RCSD, I now work with several organizations to design, build, and lead ecological education programs. I have also been calling myself an “urban ecologist”. I am deeply interested in understanding and fostering the relationship we all have with our urban ecosystem. This includes more than just the plants and animals. Our buildings and social systems are part of the ecosystem. It is more than just the city. Every inch of Monroe County is part of the urban ecosystem. Seeing our community as an ecosystem will lead us to a new way forward. I am also getting more comfortable with calling myself a social entrepreneur. I recently finished an MS in Management program at RIT and thanks to the project based, student centered philosophy there I was able to focus my coursework on the creation of innovative and sustainable organizations. I have started a business, Green Collar Collaborations LLC and am in the process of launching a nonprofit organization that will be dedicated to creating opportunities for people (mainly young people in the city) to engage with the environment and each other. ⠀ In general I want to build community around our shared environment with the goal of creating a more hopeful future together. ⠀ #explorerochester

Meissen plaque of „das Schokoladenmädchen“ (OK, OK, La Belle Chocolatière de Vienne) after a painting by Jean-Étienne Liotard. The plaque from the second half of the 19th century. Crossed swords mark on unglazed bottom, illegible incised model number and Pressnummer. Size of the plaque: 4 3/4 by 3 1/2 inches. The trembleuse cup is only 1 cm tall, swipe to last image to see the detail of the Kakiemon decoration (different than in the original). My modest homage to the brief reopening of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister.

#newacquisition for my personal collection. #paulgarlandart A beautiful painter. This one has a layer of some sort of adhesive paper covering the surface. I love the smoky, misty, mystical finish. #axomgallery

This @pveitch13 painting is one of my favorite pieces in our house. One of my favorite painters. The sofa is from @axom_home made by @gusmodern We spent just about a year to decide on a sofa and it happened to be right in front of us. Posting some art we have collected because I’m out of art at the moment. We like pink over here also. My first purchase of art in 1980 at the 696 Gallery on Park Ave. by Dellas Henke an artist who lived in the area for a time. He was a picture framer and primarily a printmaker but also painted. Later that year I was in a show at the Pyramid Art Gallery run by @antonio.petracca.art titled "Erotica Neurotica" with him and another artist I admire @jappiekingblack #rochesterartcollectors #roctheart #myfirsttime #artistsproof #pyramidartgallery

It’s difficult to explain to some folks. Collecting art is an aspect of life I never thought would be a part of mine. Now that it is, I cannot imagine much else which provides the same kind of deep satisfaction. Today was one messed up day that has set forth a significant set of challenges in the months ahead. I’m hardly able to think straight. Coming home to a new print at my door was such a delight. I’ve been waiting for this piece to arrive for a while now. The work of @dirtworship is now a part of my collection, and closes the gap even further of living artists I’ve been seeking out. She’s one badass woman to add to my collection of awesome female artists. Loving the barbed wire embellishment. #rambling #dazed #art #rochesterartcollectors

“The curating process doesn’t stop at the gallery. Sarah and I have a lot of art in our home and I enjoy putting work together on the walls as I would in an exhibition.” - Bradley Butler, gallery director and curator . . . Join us for “Curating Your Collection”, a collaborative event with @rochesterartcollectors on Saturday, September 8th at 1pm. It will be a conversation around curating as it relates to your own art collection and a walk through of our current exhibition.

Mandi Antinucci is our 200th member! * When Mandi Antinucci became a member of Rochester Art Collectors on May 22nd she helped the group reach it's goal of 200 members ahead of it's June 30th goal. Not only that since she joined before June 30th Mandi will forever be known as a "Founding Member" of Rochester Art Collectors. * Mandi is not only an avid art collector, she is an accomplished artist in her own right. Plus there's a history of art lovers in her family. Her grandfather, Robert Heaviside, collected extensively and served on the board of directors of the Everson Museum in Syracuse, New York. * Mandi's collection includes both contemporary works as well as works from the 19th and 20th century. Her collection hangs throughout her home in Geneseo. * Pictured with her are two works from Mandi & Rob Antinucci's collection by Andrea Durfee (above) and Nate Hodge (below). * Mandi teaches art in the Batavia City School District while her husband, Rob Antonucci, teaches art in the Geneseo Central School District. Both are practicing artists as well as collectors and teachers. * * * #200 #200strong #growing #rochesterartcollectors #RochesterArt #rocthearts #collectart #artcollector #whatsonyourwalls #buyart #ROCtheArt

How are posts for ROCtheArt.org chosen?

To qualify the
Instagram post must include works of art held in private collections based in the Rochester, NY region (regardless of who made the work) OR works held in private collections with a connection to our region (e.g, a collector who has moved to another area) OR that include works by artists with a connection to our region (e.g., an artist who has moved to another region). This page does not focus on artists posting images of their own works held in their own collections. If you would like work from your art collection to be considered for inclusion on this page, please:

  • Add #ROCtheArt to your Instagram post;
  • Tag the photos with @rochesterartcollectors; and
  • If possible, please tag the artists so other collectors can find them!
