On April 18th Rochester Art Collectors partnered with International Art Acquisitions on a very special and unique afternoon program around the emerging role of artificial intelligence in creating and collecting art. When participants arrived at International Art Acquisitions they saw hundreds of works of art in a wide range of traditional media, formats and styles displayed in a very large professional retail gallery space. The owner of International Art Acquisitions, Barbara Nino, was available to greet everyone and answer questions. International Art Acquisitions has been in the business of presenting fine art for sale for decades. They are an art dealer with a large retail exhibition space. In addition to selling art they provide a range of art related services including art appraisals, consulting and resale. Our topic on April 18th will be "Art & Artificial Intelligence: An Exploration"
Artificial Intelligence is here now, but the idea itself was born in the publications of philosophers, poets, theologians, and mathematicians as early as the 1300s. Throughout history, art has been an expression of human creativity, ideas, and skill. Will new artificial intelligence tools build on this or diminish the output of human ingenuity? Our presenter explored classic themes in art paralleling conventional knowledge with generative AI generating applications and software. This presentation was not an exhaustive summary of the totality of artificial intelligence tools available in the marketplace, nor was it a technical explanation of how they work. Instead, attendees had an opportunity to see two common AI models respond to prompts alongside conventional art knowledge. Attendees had a very lively afternoon of art and conversation!
